The Week to Come 06JAN13

I was originally going to post about some 2012 titles I still very much want to read but my list ended up being 26 titles and that's a bit long. Rest assured, I am still mixing in some 2012 titles in addition to the newest YA as you'll see from this week's lineup. Already I have started implementing one of my goals of linking to other reviews and I'm loving it. It has been so much fun rereading other opinions and trying to make sure to link to those who loved and those who hated the book, in order to make a balanced presentation. I also wanted to mention some posts from last week in case you missed them.

Last Week:
I posted about my favorite books read in 2012 as well as goals for making 2013 the best blogging year yet! ARC Reviews include Just One Day by Gayle Forman and Delusion by Laura L. Sullivan, both out January 8.

Reviews to Come:

What We Saw at Night by Jacquelyn Mitchard-YA Mystery

Prettiest Doll by Gina Willner-Pardo-Middle Grade (MG) Contemporary in the exciting world of beauty pageants

Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool-MG Historical Nature-why did I read a book about two young boys set mostly in the woods in the mid-1940s? What about this book says "Stephanie might like it"?

Uses For Boys by Erica Lorraine Scheidt-Dark YA Contemporary that has elicited strong emotions, both positive and negative-what were my feelings?

Exposure by Kim Askew and Amy Helmes-YA Contemporary Retelling; I adored the first Twisted Lit book Tempestuous; what did I think of this unrelated retelling of Macbeth?

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith-YA contemporary from 2012, made several bloggers' favorites list; will it make mine?

Finally saw Les Mis-loved it, just bawled at the ending. I definitely thought Anne Hathaway (above) and Eddie Redmayne (Marius) were the best parts but I thought pretty much everything was good. I didn't even have a problem with Russell Crowe's singing although I've heard a lot of people have. I am excited to see it again (and again and again) once it's on DVD so I can just watch my most favorite parts :)

What have you been up to? Do you have thoughts about Les Mis? Happy reading :)

  1. I just finished reading Uses For Boys, I haven't started writing my review for it yet, for me it is one of the books that I think will be hard to review. I just started reading Exposure also, haven't gotten far enough into it to know if I will enjoy it though.

  2. I just went to see Les Mis last night and thought it was fantastic! Unfortunately during I Dreamed a Dream (and other parts of the movie) there were some morons at the front of the theater who laughed and giggled. I am looking forward to the DVD release so I can fully enjoy the movie.

  3. I have occasionally linked to other reviews, but I'm always trying to get myself off the computer. I love reading a review and then clicking on other review links, especially if they offer a completely different opinion. So maybe I need to revisit that idea. I also used to list comp titles, but I never know if other people care or not and it's more work.

  4. Great to hear you loved Les Mis so much. I don't think I've heard of anyone who wasn't reduced to tears watching it. I wanted to see it with my daughter, but she went with her friends instead. Now I'm considering seeing it alone. I'd rather bawl my eyes out alone than with a friend, anyway. lol! Truthfully.. I'm thinking of reading the novel first. I know.. crazy idea especially since it's quite a bit longer than Anna Karenina and I dropped the ball on that one! Who knows.. the year is young.

    Happy New Year!

  5. Oh oh I'm so stoked for your FEELS on Uses for Boys because that's coming up on my TBR pile! Should I be scurrred, worried, anxious WHAT WHAT WHAT?

  6. Everyone I know has raved about Les Mis and said take tissues. I can't wait to see it, soon I hope :)
Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
