February Thoughts and the Week to Come 03MAR13

February Recap:

This was a tough and busy month for me personally! I was slammed at work plus I started in our softball team in addition to my other outside commitments. Thus I only read 23 books, putting me at 47 for the year when I needed to be at 50. This is making me put a lot of pressure on myself to read a lot in March-we'll see how that pans out.

As I said, I read 23 books with an average rating of 3.78. My recommendations would be:
-Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys
-Also Known As by Robin Benway
-The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman
-Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

March Madness:

Personally I hate basketball and college sports (regardless DUKE forever!) but I do enjoy brackets and voting. Two blogs I follow are seeding movies. Worducopia is beginning a year-long project pitting 64 of the Best Picture winner Oscar movies against each other, inspired by The Oregonian. I have also been on a personal quest to watch all of the Best Picture winners and have seen over half of them so I have lots of thoughts. I think Casablanca will deservedly come out on top but am excited to follow it.

Meanwhile Forever Young Adult is doing Teen Movies. It was suggested in the comments that it might come down to Clueless vs Ten Things I Hate About You and that is my preference with Clueless taking the win. If you also support Clueless, I highly encourage you to follow the competitions and vote! If you don't support Clueless, then please stay far away ;)
You know you love this movie!
Week to Come:

It's a bit of an unusual schedule with mostly books released in 2012-hopefully some of you have read some of them and we can have a discussion. Also I still haven't decided on Friday's review...so that might be a surprise!

Monday is Small Damages by Beth Kephart-I have the utmost respect for Kephart but tend to have trouble connecting with her stories-did this one buck the trend?

Tuesday is The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett-a 2013 paranormal release with a good dose of comedy.

Wednesday is Daisy Whitney's sequel to The Mockingbirds, The Rivals-I loved the first book but fretted about the vigilante angle, which is happily tackled in the sequel.

Thursday is Shift by Em Bailey-a book about which I had no expectations, something about it just spoke to me when I was at the library.

Friday is possibly A Conspiracy of Alchemists by Liesl Schwarz but I actually haven't finished that yet so it might end up being something else.

Saturday is Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally-was this book better than Catching Jordan, a book that kind of angered me?

What's up with you this weekend? Leave me your links to monthly recaps so I can find out what's been going on. And as always happy reading :)

  1. I love Clueless, too! I only recently remembered about 10 Things, and while I love it, I'd still want Clueless to win.

  3. Clueless is a classic. Of course, I don't know what other movies are in there.
Looking forward to your thoughts on Small Damages and Stealing Parker.

    1. Clueless' first competitor is Weird Science, which admittedly I've never seen but which I'm sure I'd like less than Clueless since that's one of my five favorite films of all time.

  4. You'll be happy to know that Casablanca won the Oregonian's poll, hands down. (http://www.oregonlive.com/movies/index.ssf/2013/02/popcorn_bowl_casablanca_easily.html). I don't think I've seen it, or if I have it was during a Film Studies unit in high school, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares to more recent films for me.

Off to check out Forever Young Adult's Teen Movie Madness....because goodness knows I need more movies to watch!

    1. That is exactly what I'm going to do! Happily I've already read 5 books for March so I just need to keep that up.

Clueless is a total comfort film for me-I can quote most of it and I'm always so happy!

    1. You definitely should-they were pretty amazing! I think two of them were rated 5 and the other two were 4.5 because they were just that good.

  7. The fact that 23 books is a slow month for you is just.... O.o

    1. Well my goal is 25 a month and there have been months where I've done 30 or 31 so it should be possible but it's hard with a full-time job and other activities.
