Books Received and the Week to Come 10MAR13

Personal:
Wow-I had a busy week! I am hoping to just kick back and relax, knowing that this new week will be less pressure. We lost our second softball game :( but it was a rainy day so I was just glad to be done with it. I am slowly starting to get caught up on comments but will use my time today and tomorrow to do so.  As a pretty weird person, I actually really like "springing forward" because it's so much easier for changing clocks although I know my sleep cycle will be out of whack for the whole week.

Books Received:
[Received unsolicited from publisher]
White Lines by Jennifer Banash-sounds like such an intense read and I love how the 1980s seems to be such a popular setting now
Orleans by Sherri L Smith-this wasn't really on my radar at all but it came with a moving letter from the author
New Lands by Geoff Rodkey-A MG sequel that I received from the publisher; I will need to research the first book before deciding to add this to my pile.

[Selected from Amazon Vine]
Escape Theory by Margaux Froley-I've seen some cool buzz for this and I'm excited to get started
City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster-I keep going back and forth on this one but I saw the chance to snag a copy from Amazon Vine so I did

Week to Come: Early on is a bunch of 2013 releases but we'll end the week with some older books. In an interesting twist, I'm reviewing two non-fiction books-who'd have thunk?

Which of these books have you read? What did you think? And be sure to stop by this week to discuss!

Pivot Point by Kasie West
Poison by Bridget Zinn
Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson
Sexy Feminism by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong and Heather Wood Rudolph
Rebel Heart by Moira Young
Secret Lives of Codebreakers by Sinclair MacKay

  1. I don't remember what Orleans is about but I did love her historical fiction novel, Flygirl.

I look forward to your thoughts on City of a Thousand Dolls. I am sort of interested in reading it. I also am curious about what you thought of Strands of Bronze and Gold. I still need to read it.

I am currently working on my review of Poison and hope to have it posted later this week.

Have a great week! I hope it is more restful :)

  2. Ooo, we've both received White Lines and Orleans, my friend. And I can honestly say the latter is a VERY cool book. It's got beautiful writing, a fierce if not savage MC, and an intense premise. I won't lie, it has some flaws, at least for me, but overall it's good stuff.

I didn't much care for a City of Thousand Dolls, but I def. hope you like it and maybe have a different perspective I can contemplate and appreciate. ENJOY, homeslice!

    1. I've heard that the MC in Orleans is fierce and based on what I've read of the premise, she'd have to be. It looks like it'll be a grueling read but worth it.

    1. I keep reading such mixed reviews-first one hates it, then one loves it and back and forth. I won't be reading it until April or May so it will be a while yet.

    1. Doesn't Orleans sound super intense and thrilling? I think I've also read that there really isn't much romance or at least I hope I did as I am excited for a good YA book that doesn't go heavy on the romance.

  7. I hope that City of a Thousand Dolls ends up being as good as it looks and sounds! I also want to read Poison: it has such an interesting synopsis and a sad backstory.
