A-Z Bookish Survey

Some Labor Day fun! I am spending my day off from work reading of course! I've seen this on a couple of blogs like Writer Quirk and of course creator The Perpetual Page-Turner and am excited to share my answers :)

Author you’ve read the most books from:

Meg Cabot with a whopping 55 titles! I highly doubt anyone else will ever be able to top that!

(Want an easy way to figure this out if you have Goodreads and keep good track of your stuff? Go to your account, hit “my books”and on the left hand side under your shelves you will see “most read authors”)

Best Sequel Ever:

I'm leaning toward Scarlet by Marissa Meyer as it caused me to completely reevaluate the series.

Currently Reading:

Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein and Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell-juggling the awesome here!

Drink of Choice While Reading:

I don't usually eat or drink while doing my concentrated reading but when it's hot, icy water is always good.

E-reader or Physical Book?

I prefer physical books but lately have been reading so many e-ARCs that my Nook is ever present.

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

Dexter from This Lullaby especially if he wooed me like he did Remy-I would have fallen hard and fast.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

Everneath by Brodi Ashton-I was worried about another same-old, same-old paranormal love triangle but was very pleased with how the story played out (we'll see how it concludes next year!)

Hidden Gem Book:

Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey-I feel like this is getting more buzz with the news of its sequel but not as much as a lot of other paranormals.

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

Discovering book blogs in general. I had no idea what I was doing to start (and I'm not sure how much I even know now) but it led me to meet all of you wonderful book lovers as well as giving me organization, deepening my analytical skills, and pushing me to read out of my comfort zone.

Just Finished:

Leap of Faith by Jamie Blair (which is good as I was planning to review it tomorrow)

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

I don't really read horror though if bloggers I trust recommend something, I'll consider it nor do I read erotica.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (1,037 pages)
Goodreads does list the the combined Sherlock Holmes stories and The Count of Monte Cristo as longer but I read the former in two volumes and accidentally read an abridged version of the latter.

Major book hangover because of:

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Number of Bookcases You Own:

3. Many of my books are on the floor or boxed up because I don't have space for them.

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

Tough to pick just one but how about Betsy's Wedding by Maud Hart Lovelace? This is the final Betsy book and chronicles her early married life from 1914-1917.

Preferred Place To Read:

The couch-I like to just stretch out luxuriously.

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

“Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.” -Simon Pegg, Nerd Do Well

Reading Regret:

I wish I was more able to DNF books-I think I would have saved some time and allowed myself to read other things I liked more.

Series You Started And Need To Finish (all books are out in series):

Iron Codex by Caitlin Kittredge-I read books one and two but haven't picked up The Mirrored Shard yet.

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

Anne Osterlund-she has written four excellent books that have not gotten nearly enough praise (bonus: if you friend her on Goodreads, she will send you book recommendations!)

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

Cress by Marissa Meyer and Painting by Numbers, the long awaited sequel to Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey

Worst Bookish Habit:

Not buying enough books-I am so blessed to get a lot of ARCs (more than I can realistically read at this point in time) as well as having access to an excellent library.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

Surprise-it's All-American Girl by Meg Cabot (in addition to having read 55 of her books, I also own most of them, though admittedly not all.)

Your latest book purchase:

I am completely drawing a blank...it's been so long!

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder, which I only put down as my Nook was dying.

So those are my answers! Any where you agree? Did I manage to surprise anyone with my answers-I think the W and Y are a bit startling!

  1. I have a feeling that I've read the most books from Carolyn Keene because of my Nancy Drew days when I was a kid. According to Goodreads, my most read authors (tied) are Rick Riordan and Julia Quinn. I can't believe you've read 55 of Meg Cabot's books. I didn't realize she had that many but between all of her YA books and adult contemporary romance and paranormal romance I guess she does.

I'm glad you are enjoying Fangirl. Definitely one of my favorites of 2013. I need to read Attachments still.

I think I'd find it hard to answer some of these like Best Sequel Ever but this questionnaire looks like fun so maybe I'll fill it out too.

    1. I never read that many Nancy Drew books-maybe 10? I don't think my library had very many. Cabot has written SO many books-loads of series, standalones, plus her adult novels and it adds up very quickly (and I haven't even read everything she's published!)

My thoughts about Fangirl are kind of complicated...will share more on Thursday when my review goes live.

I hope you do fill it out-I'd love to see your answers!

  3. Love these questions! A book I've read over and over is The Perks of Being a Wallflower and something that I'm glad to have finally picked up is Anna and the French Kiss.

    1. I've seen Perks a lot thanks to publicity from the movie but still haven't picked it up-glad to hear it bears repeat reading.

  4. Haha, I wish I was like you. I get a lot of ARCs too and my library is fairly decent, but I still buy like CRAZY! So bad. Ugh. And I totally agree about Scarlet. I think that might be the one I picked. :)

    1. But how do you have space? I'm afraid we'll have an earthquake and I'll be crushed by my books as is!

  5. This looks fun to do. I am fixing to start Fangirl soon, it will be my first Rainbow Rowell book. :)

    1. Fangirl ended up being my least favorite RR book though it is still pretty outstanding. I have a lot of feelings but I hope you love it.

  6. I've only read 3 Meg Cabot books! I didn't even know she'd written that many. WOW. Loved Scarlet and I agree, Everneath and Everbound are definitely not your standard PNR. I cant' wait for the conclusion of the series either! I didn't know there was going to be a SHATTERED SOULS sequel? That's one where I wanted a little more of the characters. I wanted to see them happy together. But I'm not sure I want more drama to get there. Is the sequel from their POV? I wish I could DNF more too. I'm so bad at that. I just keep reading and hoping a book gets better...but usually it doesn't. Love these surveys!

    1. I haven't even read all of her books! Cabot has written at least 5 that I haven't read. I'm also really glad I gave the Everneath series a chance-I didn't have the highest expectations but it really pleased me!

The Shattered Souls sequel is more of a companion with different characters, I believe.

  7. Wow and I thought I read many books from one author!

I had the same fear when I started Everneath, but I was so happy it turned out to be a great book :)

    1. I can't believe that Cabot has written that many! I feel like she's trying to set a record ;)

  8. For 'R' I use to be the same way, but I had to start doing it and I really really like that quote :)

    1. How did you start doing that? I try and I've done it a few times (search DNF on my blog) but for the most part, I force my way through.
