Ramblings and the Week to Come 22SEP13

Real Life:
Man have I had a busy week! Work (about which I will have exciting news next week), workouts, and other commitments have taken up a lot of time that might have otherwise been spent reading and blogging. Thus I committed this weekend to those pursuits with the goal of reading four books. So far I have only finished one so I expect I will only finish two more today. I also need to work on commenting, my perpetual quest.

Also how are we almost done with September when each day seems to be taking forever? I'm thrilled because I won a dress and two books (will talk about them more when they arrive.)

Sports:
First up my softball team got our first win this week...mostly because the other team forfeited! I cannot tell you how often just showing up has paid off for me and this is another example I see in my life. Instead we had a nice batting practice and I even scooped up some ground balls from second base.

I feel like such a bad fan for forgetting that Manchester United was playing their first Champions match of the year. It was a very Rooney-centric victory so I didn't mind too much. Then I forgot my Eagles were on Thursday Night football but since they lost, it was probably for the best for my nerves. Furthermore my ability to watch football has been seriously eroded due to soccer's commercial-free pace. I was watching football last Sunday when it came back from commercials for about 30 seconds with no plays only to then return to commercials! I definitely prefer watching soccer now.

In other excitement, my dad is traveling to Germany on a business trip and is hoping to pick up a German World Cup jersey for me, which would be so cool! While my number one team is the US, if they are knocked out early (probable), I will turn my fandom toward Germany.

Received:
What Goes Around by Courtney Summers-won from I Want to Read That-thank you!
Will in Scarlet by Matthew Cody
Bracelet-instead of getting two books from Amazon Vine, I only got the above and a bracelet. This should make writing my reviews a bit less time-consuming.

Week to Come:
Asylum by Madeleine Roux-standalone mysterious thriller with photos
Starry Nights by Daisy Whitney-fantastical contemporary featuring the art world
Rogue by Gina Damico-conclusion to the Croak trilogy
Engines of the Broken World by Jason Vanhee-YA horror
Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller-intense sounding contemporary
When the Marquess Met His Match by Laura Lee Guhrke-adult historical romance

Hope your reading is going well-have a lovely week!

  1. i'm very interested in your thoughts about starry nights. i started reading it, got to about the middle and stopped to read something else. now i can't bring myself to pick it up again because while it's okay, it's just okay. there are more books in my tbr that's better than okay.

    1. I can see why you stopped with Starry Nights-I do think it picks up but if you're not hooked now, you're probably not missing out to not finish it.

    1. I've shared it now but I don't get tired of saying it: I got a promotion!

  3. I haven't requested a non-book item from Amazon Vine yet though I have been tempted. I have branched out into requesting reference books and cook books this year so we'll see. That reminds me that I have a week to try making some cookies from the Betty Crocker Christmas cookie book! Looks like I know what I'll be doing later this afternoon!

My review of Where the Stars Still Shine will be going up on my blog this coming week also and I can't wait to read your thoughts on the book too. Starry Nights looked interesting to me and I've been looking for more romance novels to read so I'll be sure to check out your review of When the Marquess Met His Match.

This month is going by entirely too quickly! In a way I am really looking forward to October and to Thanksgiving but I'm not ready for Christmas yet (or snow and winter in general).

    1. I was pretty disappointed with the bracelet to be honest-still working on all my thoughts for that. I'm always ready for Christmas as it's my favorite holiday but it comes too soon after my birthday (which is December 14.)

    1. It's still our only win so I'm glad we have that on the boards. I'm doing blogging right before bed (like now) but am also trying to squeeze in reading too-I need to manage my time better and stop getting sucked into Pinterest.

  10. I need to read Will in Scarlet! Oh man, my targeted newsletter sucked this week. But I've learned a tip - save the old full newsletter and you can use the links in it.

    1. I did not know that but I am planning to utilize it in the future because my targeted newsletter sucked that week too.

  11. 4 books in a weekend just reminds me of how awful I am. I finished one book this week, and it was on Saturday. :(

Also, I'm totally jealous of all the sports stuff you have going on! I'm into hockey and right now is preseason and it is dragging on... and on.. and on. :p Also, my school changed their mind about fall soccer so now I have to wait until spring for that.

I'm looking forward to your posts! I'm especially curious about Asylum.

    1. Now hockey has started at least! And I keep hoping for 4 and only finishing 2 1/2-my time management skills for my personal life have completely disintegrated (damn you Pinterest!)

  12. Congrats on the softball win, a win is a win lol. Unlike Manchester United ... a very sad game against Man City :(
I was so busy this week but actually managed to finish 3 books, not sure how that happened haha. Looking forward to your reviews, have a great week and happy reading :)

  13. I don't follow sports at all, but I can say that the commercials would drive me nuts! I watch everything on netflix so now I have no patience for commercials.
I've been getting only one book from vine as well. This time the 2nd item was a toy for my son. Next weeks will be harder since there's more variety, if there are two books I'm dying to read I'm sure I'll grab them.
Looks like a great week is planned!

    1. I don't mind commercials for television shows at the moment but it's driving me crazy in the sports world!
