I thought this would be cool to read because I saw that it was considered a more adult Harry Potter and I needed something to read before the movie came out. But I was just not connecting with it. The magic was not interesting enough to me and I didn't like any of the characters.
Passion Play by Beth Bernobich
I won this through Goodreads' Firstreads program and I was super excited! But about fifty pages in, the main character was about to be raped and I just could not handle it. I will try to return to it another time when I'm in a better frame of mind but at the moment, it was too much for me.
I hope you find inspiration for these two books in the future. I always hope for the same when I copme upon books I can't read. Ouch, rape is a tough topic to read about. I've only read about rape once and it was a difficult experience, but I don0t regret it. It opened my eyes to many things. But, you must be in the right state of mind, totally.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly disliked The Magicians for the most part because of the characters and Grossman's own pretensions about his writing. The plot is reasonably entertaining and I managed to blow through the book quickly enough, but I ended up frustrated and feeling very empty. I understand why you set that one aside. You're not missing much.
